Everyone knows that in today’s world money is a very precious thing. With fuel prices through the roof and daily living expenses on the rise, I have employed technology in my home to save every penny I can. Without sacrificing the quality of living I am used to.
The first thing I did was to register and build a family website. This gave me email accounts for every person in the family, and special email accounts. I setup a email account just for bills. Most companies will allow you to pay online. So when they ask for a email account I give them my billing email account. This keeps things out of harms way. I know where all my emails are for my different monthly bills. Then I notified my Bank that my email address had changed and to send my e-notices to that account. You would not believe how great it is to check one account and have all the financial information in one spot. If you figure $.39 a stamp times my 12 bills a month that’s a savings of almost $60.00 a year.
The next thing I did was to cut our telephone service. I have a cell phone. Why do I need 2 ways of calling me. A basic calling package with verizon (our local land line service) with a long distance package and DSL was almost 100.00 a month. I axed it, no need for this service except for DSL. My phone bill is now 19.99 plus taxes a month. Since we have broad band internet, my wife and I use the internet to chat or Skype to talk or even video chat through Yahoo. It doesn’t cost us any extra to actually video chat. What would you rather, to see the person your talking too or just hear them. Total savings with phone service is around $960.00 a year. That’s a lot of money.
If you have been following the site I posted about our television service. We canceled our satellite TV for a savings of $72.00 a month or $864.00 a year.
