On the about page Jon states that “Two of the things in life I enjoy are history and making drinks so, I joined them together.  I have done some research and I’m willing to share. “  Jon’s Wet bar is a very interesting site.  It takes a spin unlike any other blog out there.  First things first, the content is a bit of a history lesson, with events being posted on the calendar day of their happenings.  Then Jon links in some very cool beverage recipes to boot.  This is a great daily read.  Here are some articles you may enjoy.

Dreaming  - Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jon links a drink containing equal parts on ingredients, this is the kind of thought that goes into his daily posts.

Yellow Submarine – Posted January 17; Exactly 39 years ago the Beatles released their eleventh album, Yellow Submarine.

Columbia – January 12,1986 this bitter sweet time right before the Challenger Catastrophe.

Things to Improve on

One of the only things I could say that he could improve on would be better post titles.  The titles of the posts are a little bit to be desired but it does get the job done.

Conclusion

Overall it is a great read and a daily visit from me.  You may want to subscribe to his RSS feed to keep up with this great site.

Share the Joy, Let Needy Families or Schools Own a Computer

Posted by admin in January 22nd 2008

Ever wonder what life would be like without your computer. Just think, in the US there are still families without computers or cell phones. Then you have people like me. I have 5 or 6 running in my basement doing different tasks. This week I’m going to start playing with server virtualization again. What can you do with older machines? I say donate them to a needy friend that doesn’t have a computer. That’s right just give it to them. Here are some other ways to donate electronics to needy people.

  1. Donate old cell phones to the Women’s Shelter: This is a great way instead of recycling them donate them. You should include your car charger and wall charger when donating.
  2. Donate your computer to good will: This may not work anymore but in my town you used to be able to donate your old computer if it was working to the goodwill. This gives less fortunate families a chance to own one.
  3. If you talk to someone and they don’t have money for a computer or money for software talk to them about all the free software. You could suggest an older computer with ubuntu installed on it. Guess what, after the first initial price of the computer its free from then on. Unless they want to get on the internet.
  4. Here is a great place to find somewhere to donate your computers. It’s call Share the Technology.
  5. Once you figure out where to donate here is a good article on how to do it.

If anyone else has ideas on where to donate computers too let me know. I will add them to this list.

Where to donate a computer to be continued . . . .

What is the future of computers?

Posted by Michael in January 15th 2008

One thought I had about a week ago, where is the computer market heading? With computers at bottom barrel prices and online apps from Google on the rise what is going to happen to computers for the everyday use? I’m going to stick my neck out and say this is my prophesy.

With the sudo laptops emerging and online storage and syncing services, computers will become cheaper yet with no real need to store any information locally. Gmail offers you a really decent size for your mailbox. Actually one of the largest of the webmail interfaces, 6GB to be exact. You can stream your television programs from the internet; even HD content is available from some networks. Music and movis can be accessed their too.

Blogging, the real force on the internet now gives common people a voice to be heard on the internet. Communities dedicated to some sort of activity can usually shed more light on a product or service better than a retailer. Tech review blogs challenge manufactures to come up with great products and then allow common people to share their experience. This can make or break products right off the manufactures line. If you bring out a sub par product and it grabs the attention of a blogger who has a decent readership, look out. You could see thousands of people not buying the product because of one sites review. …..Click here to read more

Windows Mobile 6 and the blackjack scandal

Posted by admin in January 15th 2008

Samsung BlackjackOkay so this isn’t going to be a friendly post. WM6 was promised to the AT&T blackjack community for quite some time. I actually bought the blackjack under the premise that WM6 was going to be rolled out in the near future. After many phone calls and complaints that things weren’t moving at all I figured I would write here maybe to spur a little more discussion on what seems to be the hold up.

Really honestly Getting WM6 running on this device isn’t that far from working. From what I have read about the leaked version floating around on the web, is its pretty damn close to actually working without many flaws so why don’t I have it yet? I don’t know. In the open source community there are many deadlines that are placed on developers to bring a product or service out on a rather timely manner. Is the holdup with Samsung or with AT&T.

Who knows, it could be a ploy for people to upgrade to the Blackjack II. Im not running out and buying a brand new device just so it has WM6 pre installed. I think AT&T needs to communicate with their customers and let them know what’s going on. If AT&T was up front and actually told the community what the hold up was maybe I would understand a little better. All I know is that AT&T should get off their ass and tell us what is going on instead of misleading us.
